Dr. Paula R. Stiles studied under Dr. Joëlle Rollo-Koster, Dr. Hugh N. Kennedy and Dr. Esther Pascua Echegary. She wrote her master's thesis on the arabisation of the Knights Templar during the Crusades for the University of Rhode Island in 1999 and received her PhD from the University of St Andrews in 2005.
