Arek Lancer and his freighter, the Nomad's Wind, need a job badly but distress calls from doomed planets like Storw are hard to ignore.  He soon regrets agreeing to carry refugees when a mysterious stolen artifact winds up on his ship. Recovering the artifact may cost Lancer more than just his ship.
